Up for sale is this gorgeous Bates Gildea And Walker Black Transferware Platter with a Satsuma Pattern. Comes with a write up explaining a short history and an explanation of the markings on it.
"B. G. & W. = Bates, Gildea & Walker.
This Company operated at Dale Hall Works, Burslem, Staffordshire Potteries. They Produced Earthenware and china from 1878 to 1881 only.
Previous to 1878 the company operated under the name of Bates Walker Co.. After 1881 the name was Gildea & Walker. (Bates was no longer in business.)
Distinguishing initials found on several printed marks of different design.
Design name of the individual pattern is often included, hence Satsuma.
Bates with various partners started in 1859 until 1881 (Over 130 years ago.)
The Register Mark on platter indicates date as 27th day of august 1879."
Great antique condition – no chips, no cracks. There are some areas of wear – see photos.
