Beautiful Antique Pair of Japanese Cloisonne Vases – Meiji Period (1868-1912)
Stunning pair of Japanese Cloisonne and Ginbari foil vases with wooden bases. Each vase stands 7 1/4" tall and is signed on the bottom of the base. Beautiful colourful floral motif with Dragon and Phoenix bird. Overall this pair is in great condition for its age, however, one vase has a flaw on the neck of the vase. Please see all the photos and the video for a more detailed description.
"Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects with coloured material held in place or separated by metal strips or wire, normally of gold. In recent centuries, vitreous enamel has been used, but inlays of cut gemstones, glass and other materials were also used during older periods; indeed cloisonné enamel very probably began as an easier imitation of cloisonné work using gems. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné."
"Ginbari foil is an ancient enamel technique developed by Japanese artists. It is also the name of the thicker silver foil used to make one of a kind or repeated design motifs in silver. These designs show through transparent enamels and add an extra layer of surface texture and pattern. It can also used with cloisonné techniques."
