HYCROFT Hand Painted Chop Plate in Pattern "Breeze"

Unique hand painted chop plate in the pattern "Breeze" made in Medicine Hat Alberta, Canada. This plate is in great condition which no chips or cracks, however, there is minor crazing on the underside on the plate. There is also some minor utensil marks in the center. (Please see pictures for more information).

A wonderful addition to your Hycroft collection!Medicine Hat Potteries Ltd began production in 1938, offering more delicate and ornate products than Medalta. The clay products industry in Medicine Hat began production in the mid 1880's, shortly after the Canadian Pacific Railway's transcontinental line went through the region. Blessed with high quality clay and natural gas to fuel the kilns, Medicine Hat became a focus for the creation of bricks, pottery, and other ceramics. Seeing as the clay industry was booming in southern Alberta, the "Medicine Hat Pottery Company" began production and continued to operate until 1955, when it was purchased by Marwell Construction of Vancouver and the name of the venture was changed to Hycroft China. Only two years later the operation was sold again to the multimillionaire Mayor of Medicine Hat, Harry Viener. Veiner deftly reorganized the company and diversified its product line , adding toilets and sinks to the company's traditional product line of pottery and souvenir items. Viener's innovations reinvigorated the company's fortunes and Hycroft China continued to operate until the plant closed in the late 1980's.
